Brief History – Who Am I?
Dr. Fareeda Rahmatulla Khan is a distinguished social activist, educationist, journalist, poet, novelist, and fiction writer, born and brought up in the remote Gullanpet village of Aldur Hobli in Chikkamagaluru district, Karnataka. Growing up in the serene coffee plantations of Malnad, she pursued her early education in government Urdu and Kannada-medium schools before completing high school in Aldur and PUC in Chikkamagaluru.
After her marriage, she moved to Bengaluru, completed her Bachelor of Arts from NMKRV College, followed by MA in Political Science (Karnataka University, Dharwad) and MA in Urdu (Maulana Azad University, Hyderabad).
A passionate educationist, she founded Holy Mother’s English School, which has been serving children for over 35 years—providing free education to nearly 40% of students from marginalized communities. She established Holy Mothers in Avalahalli, offering free education and running free pre-primary schooling to prevent dropouts, and I have also started a school there to help underprivileged children enroll and continue their education.
Dr. Fareeda is also the Founder Secretary of Mount Arafat Education Society and Al-Huda Women and Children Welfare Society, empowering women through education, medical support, and social initiatives.
As a writer, she has published many novels, short story collections, and has been the editor and publisher of the Urdu monthly magazine Zarrin Shuwayen since 1989. Her stories have been aired on All India Radio, and several of her TV plays have been telecast on Doordarshan. An M.Phil has been completed on her work at Kuvempu University.
Dr. Fareeda Rahmatulla Khan: A Life Dedicated to Education, Literature & Social Empowerment
Dr. Fareeda Rahmatulla Khan stands as one of Karnataka’s most accomplished women—an educationist, social activist, journalist, poet, novelist, fiction writer, and humanitarian whose work has transformed thousands of lives across Bengaluru and rural Karnataka. Her journey from a small Malnad village to becoming an award-winning national figure is a story of determination, compassion, and lifelong service.
Dr. Fareeda Rahmatulla Khan’s Fight Against Drug Abuse Among Children and Youth – A Commitment to Safeguard Them from Addiction and Preserve Their Future
I am working extensively to protect children and youth from drug abuse, e-cigarettes, and other harmful addictions that are destroying their education, character, health, and ultimately their lives. Today, even children as young as 5, 7 to 9 years old are being exposed to these substances, and many innocent youngsters are becoming users, buyers, and sellers without understanding the consequences.
To address this growing crisis, I regularly gather students—both individually and in groups—to counsel them about the dangers of drugs. I advise them to stay away from harmful substances and avoid people who are already addicted. This is one of the most urgent needs of today’s generation, as many young people are becoming dependent on drugs and losing their future.
With compassion and commitment, I meet youth wherever necessary—on the streets, in communities, and in schools—to guide them towards a healthier life. I also promote awareness about health, hygiene, and clean surroundings, using public announcements and group sessions to spread the message.
My mission is to save and uplift our children and youth by helping them overcome addiction, restore their well-being, and build a better future for themselves and their families.
Early Life and Background
Dr. Fareeda was born in Gullanpet, a tiny remote village in Aldur Hobli, nestled among the lush coffee estates of Chikkamagaluru district. Growing up in the interior regions of Karnataka, access to basic education was difficult. Her earliest schooling began at the Government Urdu Primary School, followed by Government High School, Aldur.
Despite the limited facilities, she showed exceptional academic interest. She completed her PUC at the Government P.U. College, Chikkamagaluru, before getting married at a young age. Marriage, however, did not deter her educational aspirations.
Higher Education and Academic Excellence
After shifting to Bengaluru post-marriage, she resumed her studies with great determination.
- B.A. – NMKRV College, Bangalore
- M.A. Political Science – Karnataka University, Dharwad
- M.A. Urdu – Maulana Azad University, Hyderabad / Dharwad University
